Captain Ian Hamilton has transformed himself from a muscular, battle-hardened veteran to a brunette called Jan.
And he is set to become the first Para in Forces’ history to undergo a sex swap.
Ian, 42 ? who has served with the super-tough regiment in Afghanistan, Iraq and Bosnia ? will spend £20,000 over the next five years on the change. The strapping six-footer will jet to Thailand for facial surgery to have his jawline and nose reshaped. He is taking female hormones ? and already developing B-cup boobs. Yet he is adamant he is NOT gay and does NOT find men sexually attractive ? describing himself instead as a “male lesbian”.

Ian has been living as Jan since February with his heterosexual former girlfriend Rachel Ward, but has shielded his secret from the world until now. He told how he had been tormented for years and driven to feel suicidal by the conflict between his feminine inner feelings and the need to put on a macho front. Dressed in a long flowery skirt, white blouse and wearing full make-up including Estée Lauder lipstick and foundation over a light stubble, Jan said: “Although my body is male, my mind is female.
“I wanted how I look on the outside to match how I feel on the inside. If I didn’t do this you would be coming to my funeral.” Ian, who lives as “sisters” with Rachel in the north of England, said his parents were still coming to terms with the news but that a lot of friends had been very supportive.
